Dr. Ian Pike, Professor in UBC’s Department of Pediatrics and Director of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit, has been awarded a research fellowship to travel to Japan to explore the development of a social marketing program to promote child passenger safety among parents and caregiver drivers.

The fellowship is sponsored by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Dr. Pike will be traveling to the National Research Institute of Police Science in Chiba and will work with researchers, including Dr. Kazuko Okamura, for 7 weeks in October and November, 2019.

“Road safety is an international issue,” said Dr. Pike. “I am honoured and very grateful for this opportunity, and looking forward to collaborating with colleagues in Japan to look for ways to improve safety for kids riding in cars.”
